Hans Schardt (1858–1931) [1]
Schardt was born in Basel and studied pharmacy. However, he eventually turned to geology. From 1883 to 1897 he was a teacher of natural sciences at the Collège in Montreux, then professor of geology and paleontology at the University of Neuchâtel until 1911, when he was appointed successor to Albert Heim at the Institute of Geology at the Polytechnic in Zurich (ETHZ). Until 1928 he was full professor of geology there and at the same time also at the University of Zurich.
