Brüngger was born in Winterthur and worked as a map lithographer, topographer and relief modeler at the Topographische Anstalt J. Schlumpf in Winterthur until 1893. From 1894 he worked as a lithographer at the Topographical Survey of Switzerland in Bern until his retirement in 1913.
