Antoine Biétrix (1817–1904) [1]
Biétrix grew up as a farmer’s son in Frégiécourt. He attended the teacher training college in Porrentruy from 1840, but dropped out. He never had a long-term job, fulfilled minor military missions now and then and was often abroad. Because of his difficult financial situation, he was often dependent on the support of friends. He occupied himself in between with historical and archaeological studies, during which he also created a number of relief models of Jurassic castles. Late he got a teaching position at the orphanage in Porrentruy.
